Garland ISD is ranked the second-largest district in Dallas county with 55000 students over 72 campuses. 100-year tradition of excellence makes it among the 75 largest in America with diverse population that speak over 100 languages. They have magnet programs, technology driven campuses, and around 200 Technical Education, and Career driven courses.

District Policies and Student Code of Conduct

The school board policy on child abuse reporting states that individual who suspect has been abused or neglected has legal authority to report the suspected abuse under the state law or report to the Child Protective Service. Student who is a victim of bullying shall not be subject to disciplinary committee if they use reasonable self-defense in defense.  Sexual harassment is a conduct that is serious, and offensive that it can deprive the victim of access to the educational benefits or opportunity provided by the school. However, name calling among students, and teasing are not considered sexual harassment.

The district has zero tolerance policy that state that a person who commits a felony with intent to induce, solicit, or coerce a child to participate in criminal activities will face disciplinary action or face disciplinary education program.

Safety/Security/Emergency Response and School District Practices

Lockdown occurs when hazard or a threat is inside a building. Students stay out of sight. Adults recover students from the hall way. Staff turns off the lights and lock the classroom door, obscured visibility and prepare to defend or evade. School try to curb bullying by involving the community and talking about importance of prevention.
