LGBT Community

The LGBT community has fought for equality and inclusivity all over the world. In many countries, members of the gay community, unfortunately, face a lot of discrimination, violence, and even death. For this reason, there has been an increased awareness of the issue of equality and acceptance of the LGBT community. Despite the many steps taken to ensure that the LGBT community is treated equally in areas such as marriage and other parts of social life, they still face great hostility in parts of the world. Some of the countries that criminalize gay relationships include Sudan Syria, Iraq, Qatar, the UAE, and Nigeria (Meyer). In most of these countries, same-sex relationships are punishable by death.

It is of grave concern that people still face persecution for living their truth. In some 120 countries, same-sex relationships are heavily frowned upon by legal and moral laws of the counties. Gay people’s lives are under threat. In countries such as the US where laws protect same-sex relationships, the LGBT community still faces many challenges. In the past 20 years in the US, more than 600 people of the LGBT community have been killed (Meyer). It is essential that there is increased awareness on human rights and protection of LGBT people so that they too can live their lives as they wish.
